CrashPlan Developing Native Mac OS X App Posted on. 0 Comments This might not be as big of scoop as TMZ scooping the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition’s cover of Kate Upton in a really tiny bikini in the middle of Antarctica but in the world of online backup hearing a rumor that CrashPlan is looking at creating a native Mac OS X client. Some things that have bugged me about CrashPlan: There is no native Mac or Windows app. Their client uses Java, which can cause weirdness and resource issues. I haven’t done any testing on this like Katie has, but CrashPlan sure seems to take a lot of resources. While a native Mac application would certainly improve CrashPlan on the Mac, a native CrashPlan application is needed for Windows and Linux as well. The memory overhead of the CrashPlan service on my Windows and Linux installs was unacceptable. I had to finally remove CrashPlan from my Linux install to make the machine stable again. Corrects an issue on Mac devices using macOS High Sierra 10.13 in which the CrashPlan menu bar app closed unexpectedly under certain circumstances. Corrects an issue on Mac devices using macOS High Sierra 10.13 in which some text was missing from the status messages at the top of the CrashPlan app. If it is true that CrashPlan is working on a Mac OS X native app they might also be looking at creating Windows and Linux native applications as well. It would certainly improve the applications memory usage and allow it to run better on all the systems.
